Small & Mighty Without Even Realising

Let’s Stop Comparing Ourselves to Big Business

Catch up on Medium

Happy Easter Reader!

Just a quick sidebar before we begin, this is my favourite time of the year. It's not the chocolates 😖 or that I'll be able to feast on crisps again from tomorrow.🤫 It's the sentiment of doing for others. So imagine how timely a post on Social Impact feels right now...

A recent campaign caught my eye with the headline:

"Social impact isn’t just for big companies."

At first glance, it sounds encouraging but take a moment with the following guidance.

Why the comparison? Why are purpose-led SME founders like you still being encouraged to prove you’re “also” making an impact?

That framing misses the point entirely.

Micro and small businesses aren't playing catch-up. They’ve long been at the heart of community care, without the press, the headlines, or the budget for performative action.

More often than not, these businesses begin with a desire to fix what’s missing locally. They exist to create opportunities, to inspire by example, and to be present; visibly growing in the same spaces they serve.

Founders that become familiar faces — part of the community’s memory and future.

SME businesses are not waiting for KPIs or favourable metrics to justify giving back. They just do.

So here’s a celebratory reminder that you’re already leading in social impact:
🤓 Your presence on the high street matters.
🤓 Offering flexible jobs that support real lives matters.
🤓 Being approachable to be able to say yes to sponsorships of events, support of local suppliers and mentoring for many — it all matters.

The latest Medium article highlights why it’s time to stop comparing SMEs to corporations and start acknowledging the quiet, ethical leadership that’s already happening.

There’s no need for reinvention

Just recognition.

You’re already doing more than you think.

With clarity and confidence.

Until next time

A Case Study in Realignment Dear Reader! No excuses. Let's dive straight in. I’m currently refreshing things here at CAS Ltd. Once again, I find myself holding my hands up for getting hyper-focused on my beloved hummingbird logo. This time, the realignment is about shifting the focus towards the bird, not away from the method. Purpose & Direction Like most things in life, we see the best results when we focus on the end game, not solely on the work it takes to get there. The HouseRules method...

Time to Rethink That Meeting Culture Hello Reader, If your team’s in the same room but still Zooming in… we’ve got a problem. You’ve likely witnessed a live comedy skit play out before your eyes: an open-plan office buzzing with activity. Then you spot one person on a virtual call and then another. By the time you've surveyed the office, you catch yourself counting on your fingers. Everyone’s on the same call, headphones in, the usual suspects with cameras off, pretending they’re not two...
