Delegations Isn't - So Why Do SME Founders Resist It?

Delegation is Leadership

Stop Resisting & Here's How to Overcome it

Hola Reader,

At some point in my life, I want to escape to South America and be wooed by a Spanish-speaking intellectual. But no, that's not where I have been.😉

A plan needs time to develop and regular check-ins to ensure it's still on track. So a planned Dust Off turned into a Clean Up, which has me working through a lengthy list of actions to finish.

Enough about me, how are things with you?

You may have noticed the latest Ethical Insight went up with the changing of the season. Welcome, Spring-and welcome to the art of delegation, a leadership skill that can elevate your business from survival mode to prospering.

So many founders and managers resist it. Many see it as offloading rather than an investment in growth.

If you haven't already, it's worth a read (You'll find the time-friendly highlights in the Medium link above). Find a quiet spot where you take 10 minutes to consume and digest:

  • The real reason leaders struggle with delegation (and how to fix it).
  • How structured delegation boosts morale and productivity.
  • Why businesses without clear policies and procedures will always fall short.

Learn your business

Waiting until you're frazzled is no good. If you don't establish the internal structure, your HouseRules, you're relying on assumptions and luck. That's not sustainable.

Policies and procedures are not restrictive red tape. They are the foundation that keeps your business steady when things get busy, uncertain or complex. They create a support system for decision-making, ensuring you know when to delegate, how to delegate, and whom to delegate.

There are no surprises on what to expect in return because the investment in the individuals has been made.

If delegation feels like simply "getting rid" of tasks, making them someone else's problem, it's time to review what's missing in your support system.

  • Are you setting clear expectations?
  • Are you equipping your internal community (yourself included) with the right information?
  • If outsourcing is the best option, do you have clarity on both what you want to achieve and how the solution fits your needs?

A structured business is a successful business. So before you "offload" responsibilities in frustration, step back and strengthen your foundation first.

A Dust Off is a good place to start to confirm or refine your HouseRules to create a business that supports you, not drains you, especially when you have a growing team around you.

Until next time

When Business Boundaries Are Crossed Short on Time? Catch the Medium Highlights Good morning Reader! What would you do if you found out a former service provider was still using your data—without permission? It happens more often than you’d think. A contract ends, but access isn’t revoked. Maybe it’s an old login, a shared document, or even physical keys. Some take that as an invitation to help themselves. But just because you can doesn’t mean you should. The Ethical Blind Spot Some call it...

All That Glitters Isn't Valuable Catch up on Medium Dear Reader, "How to snag a client" using deception and power plays isn't an ethical strategy. It's manipulation. When someone assumes they know better, slaps a label on it and blocks anything to the contrary, preventing a real conversation, that says a lot. This happened to me on the weekend. Someone (the author) liked my comment and then called me a "know-it-all" before disappearing (aka blocking me). It's a prime example highlighting a...
