What's the Policy on Being MIA?

Not Even a Month Down and I'm Frazzled!

Hi Reader,

I hold my hands up and confess before you even catch some attitude. A whole lot is going on, and I suddenly realise I'm not a circus act 🤡 far from it!

So besides being in the middle of drafting my first bespoke policy for CAS Ltd (please don't judge, a builder always has outstanding jobs to do on their home, I know from working with them for years - I've clearly picked up a few bad habits).🫢

Here's something that I found interesting, the business population in the UK is 5.51 million and 99.2% of that is made up of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises aka SMEs. By now you should know this is not the place to come for stats but even more interesting is the classification of businesses.

There are so many business owners going around almost pleading with anyone who will listen to support their small business. However, the UK government may have them dubbed as micro entities. If you're across the pond, did you know it's the same?

Yes, I checked the US Small Business Administration sba.gov and just like gov.uk, a business with up to 10 employees is considered micro. That's 95% share of the US business economy.

So what's the point? Although the facts and figures confirm that micro businesses are the backbone of two "advanced ecomomies" (their terminology not mine), The smallest of businesses that hire between 6 - 10 employees are guided on how to start a business with no mention of policies and procedures.

Is it any wonder why the success rate is not higher and truly talented individuals are bought out or run out of business due to a lack of structure? The excuses seem to be along the lines of:

🧐 them not being big enough,

🧐 not having enough time, or

🧐 why write down what you can say out loud and the team can hear you as you're all working in close proximity?

Here are a few questions to leave you with:

🤔 When do you reach the point of too many employees to cope on your own?

🤔 When will you have the time to hand over to someone else to assist with managing the team and operations?

🤔 If not your way, who leads the team in your business?

The joy for CAS Ltd is working with those micro businesses on the verge of transitioning to small or wanting to settle in for a comfortable ride now that they've broken through the barrier.

To master this game of business, you need to set HouseRules that means something to you and others who align with your way of thinking.

A Case Study in Realignment Dear Reader! No excuses. Let's dive straight in. I’m currently refreshing things here at CAS Ltd. Once again, I find myself holding my hands up for getting hyper-focused on my beloved hummingbird logo. This time, the realignment is about shifting the focus towards the bird, not away from the method. Purpose & Direction Like most things in life, we see the best results when we focus on the end game, not solely on the work it takes to get there. The HouseRules method...

A SME Business Founder confused by the sight of the team meeting at their desk. Time for that policy refresh

Time to Rethink That Meeting Culture Hello Reader, If your team’s in the same room but still Zooming in… we’ve got a problem. You’ve likely witnessed a live comedy skit play out before your eyes: an open-plan office buzzing with activity. Then you spot one person on a virtual call and then another. By the time you've surveyed the office, you catch yourself counting on your fingers. Everyone’s on the same call, headphones in, the usual suspects with cameras off, pretending they’re not two...
